I really liked the activities that we completed this week. The Google Alerts and Noodle Page provided me with a lot of personal and professional opportunities. I know my students have been using Noodle Tools for a while and I never quite figured out why, but now that I know the vast areas that the website covers I can see why.
The best part of the week I thought was reading the article about Wikipedia. I think that this conversation will be one that will continue for years to come. I believe the website does a good job providing oversight over the topics, so users should believe the information that is on there. I like to take the process one step farther and look at other websites for information. If the two or three websites align on the research, all will be legit, reputable sources.

Nick,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Wikipedia can be a reliable source when facts are checked against other sources. Many will say that Wikipedia is a great starting point for finding information, but by checking this information against other sources, the reliability of Wikipedia can really be examined.
Google alerts is also a great tool for finding information. I think that students will like the fact that information comes to them, and they only have to get their hands dirty when they start evaluating the information to see if it suits their purposes. :)
