CEDO 540 Week One

Back at it again and it feels good. I am ready to hit the fast track to the end!!

Statistics is something that I have minimal knowledge about and have used very little in my classroom setting. The knowledge I have most associates with Microsoft Excel and all the equation functions that can be created on the program. Excel is a very powerful program and one that takes a lot of time to understand all of the inner workings surrounding its use.

It was good practice working with the worksheets giving me a refresher on the different concepts that are going to be covered throughout the course. The video was interesting and full of a variety of different concepts working with statistics. It is nice to see these examples so I can have ideas to base of how to use statistics in my course offerings.

  1. I hadn't thought about how useful Excel could be with this class. Duh! I teach Excel but I typically keep it to a minimum and am often confused by it myself. I'll have to take a closer look and figure it out. Three years ago we also purchased InspireData - the same makers of Inspiration - to help kids with data collecting and presenting. I never quite understood the program, but now I'm thinking I should start using it to introduce statistics to the students. Much thinking to be done...

  2. Isn't it funny that the fast track seems to end quickly. My ambition seems to start fast and die even faster. This week for me was a sure way to make sure that my ambition is gone once and for all. Hopefully it is not the case for you. Good luck and I look forward to working with you on some stats as we have shared all of our headaches before!

  3. Nick, Kara, Catherine, I so hope that by the end of this course not only will your overall knowledge of statistical concepts be greater but whatever your anxiety level, it will be lower.
