Well I do not honestly remember the exact beginning to my computer usage. I no that the first major technological device was an Atari, followed by Nintendo. I still own both systems and remember playing Super Techmo Bowl and Zelda after school everyday. Super Techmo Bowl is still the best game ever available in my opinion.
My first remembrance of computer usage was around my fifth grade year. We used an old school Apple, I don't know the specific model, to play games. I am guessing that the computer was an Apple 2E. The first game that I ever played on the computer was Oregon Trail and followed it up with a variety of other games I barely remember. I remember the computer being the greatest thing in the world and everyone felt privileged when they were able to use it.
As far as my computer usage, how it has evolved, I can say that I am very computer savy these days. As a technology education instructor, I need to know how computers work. When I started college, I was a telecommunications major that focused on the inner workings of computers. I progressed into this field from my high school days in which I was in charge of repairing computers for our Technology Education instructor.
I have been fortunate to see the evolution of the computer system and I have been touched all along the way. I remember the Oregon Trail as a print in my mind and I know the evolution of online learning will be another one of those markers that I will remember forever. While the computer started off as a gaming system that had minimal use, these days I stay connected with friends around the world and create solid modeled parts utilizing advance CAD techniques.

Wow. I was not aware you are that strong in computer technology and the the repair end of the spectrum. It's funny how almost all of us started using computers for games. Now it seems as though the computer has a life of its own. Even without this class I was on the computer and internet many times a day.
ReplyDeleteOK...The Oregon Trail was some high tech stuff do to it's RAM requirements and way cool 'realistic' graphics when it first came out...I think I was in college at the time...
ReplyDeleteI find it amazing, comparing your youth to mine (lack of it?) how I can remember to a tee exactly what it was and when it was, as far as my first experience, yet you, having been exposed to computers at a younger age, have more of a fuzzy recollection. I wonder how our children, especially yours, will respond to this question...
Where was I? I never remember playing games on the computer and I know that Atari wasn't allowed in the house... what was Zelda? I actually did get to play Oregon Trail - maybe once or twice in school. I didn't ever get to the end of the trail!
